WHAT’S THE BOOK ABOUT?
This boxed set is a collection of sweet romantic novels by five multipublished authors: RETURN TO RAINBOW ROCK, by Susan Aylworth. A FATHER FOR PHILIP, by Judy Griffith Gill. JENNY’S TURN, by Vanessa Grant. MARRY IN HASTE, by Moyra Tarling. A CHANGE OF PLANS, by Donna K. Weaver.
HOW DOES THE BOOK START? Excerpt from RETURN TO RAINBOW ROCK, the first of the five novels:
CHAPTER ONE
Late February
The sun was setting behind her, lighting the clouds ahead in delicate pastels that would have been beautiful on any other day. It was the kind of winter sunset tourists came to the desert to find, but Marcie Carmody only found it worrisome. “Damn,” she muttered, slamming her hand against the steering wheel and pushing hard on the accelerator. It was bad enough to be crawling home broken and defeated. She didn’t want to have to call for rescue just because the lights on her old clunker had shorted out somewhere this side of San Bernardino.
She passed Joseph City on her way to Holbrook, grateful for light traffic on I-40. “Can’t you make it twenty more minutes?” she grumbled aloud. With luck, the miles would run out before the last of the light.
That was when she spotted the highway patrol car sitting under a billboard for the Sagebrush Trading Post: “See our Jackelope! Cold Cherry Cider!” As she passed, she glanced down at her speedometer and groaned to realize she was going some fifteen miles per hour above the limit. She wasn’t at all surprised to see the trooper pull in behind her and light her up. She ran a hand through her unruly auburn curls.
“Dammit twice!” She slowed and pulled to the shoulder. “This is not my day. Or my week, month or year, for that matter.” She rolled down the window, dropped her head against the back of the seat in a gesture of utter exasperation and closed her eyes, waiting for the next blow to fall. It was so easy to picture herself jumping out of the car and taking off down the side of the freeway—the desert air pumping in and out, the miles disappearing under her long strides . . .
“Caught napping, are we?” The officer at her window was grinning.
“Danny? Oh, Danny! I’m so glad to see you!” She clambered out of the front seat and threw both arms around the handsome man in the tan uniform who eagerly hugged her back. Over the next few minutes, Marcie explained between hugs about the lights shorting out and why she was speeding.
Her step-brother got out his ticket pad. “You know I’m going to have to write you up, anyway,” he said.
Marcie choked. “I guess if you have to—”
Danny grinned. “Just teasing. Come on, Sis. I’ll light the way and you can follow me. You’ll get a police escort all the way home.”
Marcie kissed his cheek. “Thanks, Danny. You always were the best.”
MEET SOME OF THE CAST
Each novel features its own romantic couple. In Susan Aylworth’s RETURN TO RAINBOW ROCK, Marcie Carmody limps home to Rainbow Rock, Arizona to heal from a disastrous relationship. Ryan Fields has never felt so broken, separated from his family and redirected to the same small town. Eleanor Jefferson knew love before her husband disappeared, assumed dead. When her son’s “imaginary friend” turns out to be her long-vanished husband, can she accept him back? Both have questions to answer in Judy Gill’s A FATHER FOR PHILIP. In JENNY’S TURN, by Vanessa Grant, documentary filmmaker Jenny flees to a north Pacific island near Alaska, hoping to escape her love for Jake Austin, the boss who has broken her heart. It’s not far enough to keep Jake from finding her.Years ago Evan Mathieson broke his engagement and Jade Adams’ heart. Now he needs a mother for his orphaned nephew. Moyra Tarling’s novel shows what can happen to the right couple when they MARRY IN HASTE. In Donna Weaver’s A CHANGE OF PLANS, Lyn just wants to move on. She isn’t planning on pirates, a shipwreck, and an intriguing surgeon. All five couples find their lives changed as they navigate troubled waters together.
WHO SAYS WHAT?
From JENNY’S TURN, By Vanessa Grant:
“I keep looking at you,” Jake said, “expecting to see Jenny with the long, brown hair – like the song – I dream of Jenny.”
“The girl in the song had light brown hair.” Her voice was husky. She tried to make it firm and casual as she added, “My hair isn’t light. And she was Jeannie, not Jenny. And you don’t dream of me.”
“So I rewrote the song,” He should have been smiling, but he wasn’t. His hand was still lingering over her hair, his fingers caressing down, along the side of her neck.
Staring at him, her lips parted and her breath became ragged. If he would smile, she would know it was a joke. But he didn’t. She managed an unconvincing laugh as she said shakily, “That’s Jake. If you don’t like it, change it.”
He smiled then and her breath came back as he complained, “You’ve gotten so damned argumentative. You were never so blunt before.”
“I know – I’m surprising myself,” she admitted slowly. “I guess I’ve run out of yeses.”
From RETURN TO RAINBOW ROCK, by Susan Aylworth
Marcie grinned. “What do you notice?”
“I’m sinking in,” Ryan observed, “without trying. That’s a little…weird.”
“You’ve got it,” Marcie answered. “That’s the trick. It’s quicksand.”
“It’s WHAT?!”
“Quicksand,” she repeated. “Sort of slow sand, actually, but there’s more water running under the surface than over the top. It makes for a kind of liquefaction in the soil. If you stood right there, you’d eventually sink in and drown.”
He glowered at her. “Is that why you brought me here? You’re not the beneficiary on my life insurance.”
“Relax. I’m not going to let anything bad happen.”
WHERE DOES THE STORY TAKE PLACE?
Each novel has its own exotic locale: Rainbow Rock, Arizona is at the edge of the Painted Desert and the Navajo Nation, the setting for RETURN TO RAINBOW ROCK. A FATHER FOR PHILIP and MARRY IN HASTE both showcase beautiful mountain valleys in Canada, while the remaining novels feature Pacific islands, JENNY’S TURN in the northern Pacific and A CHANGE OF PLANS in the south.

WHAT DO READERS THINK?
By Gael Morrison on January 2, 2015
Format: Kindle Edition
I was pulled into this collection because I’m a huge fan of Vanessa Grant’s books. Her novel, Jenny’s Turn was no disappointment! Set on the Islands off the north-west coast of British Columbia, the story had an intriguing and passionate hero and heroine. I loved it.
I then moved on to Moyra Tarling’s story and really enjoyed that book also – a story about family, past love and a healing future. I then read Judy Griffith Gill’s story, A Father For Philip, and found the gentle account of a family reuniting very satisfying. From the story descriptions, I look forward to reading Susan Ayleworth’s book, Return to Rainbow Rock, and Donna K. Weaver’s book, A Change of Plans.

Each story has a Happily-Ever-After ending. However to get there each author had their own way of telling that story. I was enthralled by each story and can only say that these are must reads. RETURN TO RAINBOW ROCK by Susan Aylworth where two people who had so called loved ones leave them in horrible ways. They met up in Ranibow Rock where they turn to the other for comfort. This story has a Christian base in the story line, the only one here that does. A FATHER FOR PHILIP, by Judy Griffith Gill is about a woman and child who have come to grips with life without the man. For seven years she thought her husband had died. Now her son tells her about his imaginary friend named Jeff. Is he real? If so who is he? Will she let her husband back into her arms without knowing the whole story? JENNY’S TURN by Vanessa Grant is about a young assistant who has watched her boss go from one woman after another in the five years she has worked for him. He has taken away the job she loves and given it to someone else. She gets fed up and leaves. But is all as it seems? And why does he chase after her? MARRY IN HASTE by Moyra Tarling…here a young woman’s heart was broken several years ago by the man she loved who ended their engagement. Now he is back in the picture but with a child. His godson needs a woman’s touch and he wants her back. Is it enough for marriage? A CHANGE OF PLANS by Donna Weaver was the hardest story for me to read here. There was so much emotion going on when pirates kidnap a group of people on a cruise ship outing. I plan on reading what happens to the others in the other books by this author. It was riveting. This collection is well worth the price.
