Welcome to  BOOK OF THE DAY

Today we are pleased to feature T.L. Zalecki’s great book,

SIRENS Rising Tide

Cover

 WHAT’S THE BOOK ABOUT?

Forget whatever you think you know. History has been rewritten, and the future is in peril.

In a world where rising ocean levels swallow coastal cities and people scramble for resources on an overpopulated earth, the survival of the human race depends on biogenetic research to develop aquatic abilities. The year is 2098, and it has never been more dangerous for the elusive Sirens to be discovered.

Until now, the Sirens have remained hidden from the human world, inhabiting an obscure, undiscovered island in the Indian Ocean. Amid growing discontent among their youth, the Sirens, led by headstrong Mello Seaford, decide to test the waters of open society by striking a deal with the all-powerful megacorporation, DiviniGen Inc.

And they risk everything to do it.

Will the risk prove worth it, or will the Sirens be subjected to the diabolical whims of humanity?

HOW DOES THE BOOK START?

“Galton.”

The CEO answered the blinking hologram tablet on his desk without taking his eyes from the investor analysis before him. Five in the morning. He tipped back the last of his coffee. It was as black as the sky behind him. Dragonflies, ubiquitous minidrones that served as slaves to the still-slumbering consumerists, already buzzed around the glowing white buildings of business district in Washington, DC. The bluish-green light from DiviniGen Incorporated’s logo seeped into his office from the pinnacle of the hundred-story skyscraper.

“Morning, sir. Sorry to call so early but there’s some marine activity off the New Charleston coastline I think you’ll be interested in.”

“Go on.” Galton scooted back in his chair, suddenly at attention.

“Sonar readings tell us there’s going to be a large-scale beaching.”

“A beaching. Of what species?” He frowned, furrowing his groomed white brows hooding cold blue eyes.

“Too far out to tell yet, but they appear to be warm blooded, mammalian. And quite large.”

Galton contemplated the possibilities from the few species left in the largely depleted oceans. Once Antarctica melted and the algae spread like a green plague, they had begun falling like dominoes. But he knew that a few of the strongest survived. Some even thrived. Chances that it was the one they’d been searching for were low, but he had to be there himself. Just in case.

He peered back at the uniformed employee who spoke to him from DiviniGen’s Marine Observatory in South Carolina. “When?”

“Within the next hour, sir. If you want to be here, I recommend leaving now.”

Galton disconnected then called his assistant. “Have the heliplane ready. I’ll be on the roof in ten minutes.”

“Where should I tell the pilot he’ll be flying, sir?”

“New Charleston.”

“I’ll alert the South Carolina airport and the . . .”

“No. No airport. No Coast Guard. We’ll fly stealth and land directly on the beach. Understand?”

“Yes, sir, Mr. Galton. Your plane will be waiting.”

 MEET SOME OF THE CAST

Three poignant character perspectives are woven with strong voices that bring this tale together in a thrilling, edge-of-your-seat experience.

Lorelei Phoenix, a young marine biologist whose passion to save the dying ocean leads her on a dangerous journey into a hidden world, one in which she finds herself connected by more than just the ancestry of her people.
Mello Seaford, a strong-willed male siren who must balance his desire to bring sirens into the human world with the dark and painful secrets of his past that have come back to haunt him.
Jake Ryder, a philosophical Navy SEAL whose aquatic skills are put to the test when the world around him begins crumbling into a kaleidoscope of betrayal, mystery and otherworldly adventure.

WHO SAYS WHAT?

Lorel: Lorel glared at them both. “Look, I am a scientist. I don’t believe in aliens. I don’t believe in ghosts. I don’t even believe in God, at least not the one PanDivinity pedals. And I definitely don’t believe in mermaids.”
Mello: “We are all animals,” he had told them. “Make no mistake. We are no different than the dolphins swimming below or the monkeys that swing from the trees behind you. We have to survive. But, sirens and humans, we’re different. We can think. We can build. We can communicate through language. We can learn from each other. And that is how we are the same. Together, our two races can make the world a better place. And we all know: the humans are in need of a better world right now.”
Jake: “It’s called cognitive dissonance. People separate things in their mind to allow them to believe what they want to believe.”

WHERE DOES THE STORY TAKE PLACE?

A near-future Washington, DC where white washed skyscrapers dwarf the national monument and concrete canals are the only barrier between the people and the encroaching ocean.
And Rodinia… an unmapped, undiscovered island in the loneliest part of the ocean where the sirens live, where they are awakening to the human world.

WHAT DO READERS THINK?
